Today's Topic: How to Help Someone Through Tough Times
Today's topic is something you will have to do more than you might think. Whether it's helping your friend through a breakup or helping a sibling through something super serious, your friends and family might need to rely on you as they heal. This post will focus on the best ways that you can support them during this time.
The first step is to be a good listener. This step seems simple, but there are a some other things involved. Sometimes, people don't want advice, they just need to vent and get their feelings out there. Therefore, try to avoid giving advice to someone who does not want it, because you want to be a safe space for them, and want them to feel like they have someone to talk to.
The second step is to make sure you are keeping the focus on them. You don't want to turn the conversation to focus on yourself and you definitely don't want to just talk about yourself the whole time. Make sure you hear them out and really carefully listen to what they have to say.
The third step is to check in on them. That could be just sending them a text or bringing them some food, but any little thing can just remind them that someone is thinking of them and loves them. When someone is dealing with something, it helps to know that people have their back, so this step is super important.
Treat others the way you would want to be treated, so think of how you would want your friends and family to act if you were going through something similar!
