Today's Topic: How to Appear Confident to Others

Confidence is tricky. It's extremely challenging to be confident all the time, as we often are feeling insecure, nervous, anxious, or unsure, especially in stressful situations. For example, when we give a presentation in front of our class or partake in an interview, our body language matters a lot more than we think. Everyone watching you and listening to you is watching your body language, even though they might not even realize it. The simplest motions can give off a feeling of confidence, and these adjustments can make a huge difference in their perspective of you.

First of all, taking up more space in the room exudes confidence. We tend to close ourselves off, shrugging our shoulders inwards and lowering our eyes to the floor. This is especially true in the comparison of men and women, as women have timid body language, while men take up more space. Women can fix this by not being afraid to open their arms, lifting their heads, and raising their eyes. This will help you and them be your best, or at least appear your best if you are not feeling as confident!

Second of all, observe the body language of others. If you are able to mirror them, which you likely do without noticing, then they will feel like you are listening to them, and this will form a bond between you, due to the confidence that you give off. Even if they do not realize it, your body language will influence them to respect you and be more attentive.

Finally, a confident person always makes lots of eye contact. Eye contact is simple, but it makes you appear convincing and certain of yourself and your ideas. It also ensures that you are grabbing hold of their attention, as you can tell that they are listening to you.

Now more than ever, it is so important for young girls to learn how to be confident early one. You have amazing ideas, and you know what you're talking about, so if you can make sure you look confident, others will be confident in your ideas as well!
